Disappearing Shrink

It has been a quite a while since I’ve posted anything of substance, but it hasn’t been for naught. There have been big changes in my professional world. For one thing, I renovated the office. Here’s the new digs:

And here’s how it looked before:

Some people have said the new office is more inviting, but it hardly justifies a nine-month absence from the website. What could a person possibly produce in nine months? That’s right… a book.

It’s called The User’s Guide to the Human Mind: Why Our Brains Make Us Unhappy, Anxious, and Neurotic, and What We Can Do about It. It’s about how to live with our minds when our minds are driving us crazy with worry, depression, and self-defeating motivations. It is being published by the wonderful people at New Harbinger Publications, and it’s due on shelves this December, 2011.

I’d love to show you the cover, but the folks at New Harbinger have not yet finalized it, so I thought I’d try my hand at Photoshop to give you a rough idea of how it will look:

Over the next few months, I will be posting various book-related entries. If you want to make sure you don’t miss anything, sign up for the email list on the right. I’ll be sending emails with great irregularity, but I’ll try to make them worth your while to read.

In the meantime, IronShrink.com will get back to answering your questions about psychology with all the style, grace, and professionalism to which my readers have become accustomed. (You’ve been warned.)

We’ll start with Sreed’s question: Does effective mental health treatment require faith in the mental health profession? I’ll post my answer soon, so I hope you’ll check back. Happy spring!
